The Magic Music Myth Storyline:

In the rainforest jungles of the South America   eighteen year old Kristen McCaferty and her father stumble upon an ancient lost  pyramid.  Secretly hidden  for centuries, the pyramid mysteriously awakens and sends Kristen tumbling alone into another reality.  That reality is purgatory, or heaven, or the dream world...

Kristen awakens and is greeted by Lightning Bob, of Lightning Bob's Traveling Sideshow, the ring leader of a small traveling circus, sent to greet Kristen.  Bob informs her that she is to be God's lawyer in a trial called Magic Music Myth.  Kristen has to prove to the jury that God exists.  Kristen is reluctant, to say the least.  He also informs her of a few small problems:  #1:  God is nowhere to be seen. #2: The Devil (Phlegm Beelzebub Jones)  is.  #3: Lightning Bob and his group have to represent the world's major religions and they know absolutely nothing about religion. ( They were sent to the wrong gig: The United Council of World Theology was sent to a Bar Mitzvah.  Oops.) #4: Kristen can only return home-earth if she wins the trial.  #5:  The Devil is big, red, horny and scary and mean.

     Hinduism   IslamChristianityJudaism    Buddhism Metaphysics

The trial of course proceeds. Judge Pierre, the sneezing, coughing, sniffling, French circuit court judge, presides.  Kristen and Lightning Bob state the case of each religion doing their best to conjure up God.  What exactly do they do?  They perform of course.  Shanti the Diva sings a song called Believe representing Christianity.  Ralphy the Mute Clown performs to a song about Judaism.  The Gemini Twins do a hi-wire rope act during a song about Buddhism.  Bob magically covers Islam.  Gladimeer the dancer and juggler performs to a song about Metaphysics.  And Kristen represents Hinduism.  The Devil, along with his slimy southern sycophantic lawyer, Winston Hodges, does his best to counter-argue.  He delivers the goods of course-  witty, slanderous, sarcastic, impetuous, funny, and merciless.  Oh,  and did we mention that the audience...is the jury?!

Is Magic Music Myth preachy or religious?  No:  Magic Music Myth contains an objective  philosophical worldwide perspective based on the heart of all religions and the heart of the human condition.   Is it emotional, psychological, captivating, intriguing?  Yes.  Does it draw you in?  Yes.  Does the protagonist go through a character arch?  Yes.  Is it predictable?  No.  Is it a show, after having seen, you would recommend to your friends?  Yes-Absolutely.  What is the music like?  Hit Songs- With nuance, heart, strength, courage, passion, and raw fun.  Who wins?....Does God show up?....What happens to the devil?....How does it end? .....    We  invite you to see it for yourself!...Attendance is free of charge!!  Pick a Date and Time: September  6, 13, 20, 27: (Tuesdays) Showtimes: 3PM & 7PM.   Please let us know you'd like to attend!  Email us at the address below.   The Magic Music Myth Multimedia Showcase Presentation at The Frederick Lowe Room, 7th floor 1501 Broadway, NYC.  Thank you and Enjoy the Show!!!

"Magic Music Myth, given the proper professional treatment, has the opportunity to become an American entertainment franchise."    The Visioneering Group- Artists Promotions, Los Angeles

Production History: The first version of Magic Music Myth was produced in the summer of 1999 via an artistic grant awarded by The Arlington Cultural Alliance Group, a DC based arts group partially funded by the Ford Foundation. There were 26 performances. This was the most extravagant production to date and contained full set and light design, video projection, a live band on stage, and a cast of 23. (For plot description go to the synopsis page) The second version of Magic Music Myth was produced as a showcase/workshop event only, at The Cutting Room in New York City on September 18th, 2003. This version contained video projection, a live band, and a cast of three.  Eighteen Broadway producers signed up to attend.  Hurricane Isabelle also signed up to attend- and she blew most of the producers away....Ahh!, show business...

"MAGIC MUSIC MYTH is a highly theatrical and spectacular event…a most exciting musical.   I found it more stimulating than "Rent" and all other previous rock musicals."   Bob Anthony / D.C. Arts Critic

The Music & Design:  The Music crafted for this production has consistently received the highest of praises from both audiences and critics.   The music of Magic Music Myth is art/pop rock based- Similar to Peter Gabriel, Moby, Pink Floyd, U2, and Dire Straits.   Some songs are similar to what one may find in Disney's The Lion King, or Hedwig and the Angry Inch, or Tommy.  It rocks enough for kids to enjoy and is melodious enough for adults to enjoy. Between the major thematic pieces a light Cole Porter-ish, Gilbert and Sullivan-ish piano based background music accompanies all spoken dialogue.  No cheesey showboating.  No fakey emotional melodramitic pomp.   All lyrics forward the storyline...sometimes directly...and sometimes poetically.

The Design is equally appealing and hip.  Consistent among all versions of the show is the use of video projection containing original film footage and animation.  The result is a completely unique and captivating multi-media production.   If you are a producer and would like to see a video please call or email us.

"The songs are instantly gripping, with music that is both ominously profound  and joyful... this could be the start of something very big."      The Review (DC Arts Review Magazine)

The Vision & Goal: Broadway.  This is the next RENT, HAIR, PRODUCERS, LION KING.   Magic Music Myth has the ingredients to be enjoyed and admired worldwide, by audiences young and old.  It has the right combination of hit song material, reality, fantasy, surprise, humor and intrigue.    If  Hair, Faust, Rent and Pink Floyd all collided you'd have Magic Music Myth.  Listen to the music.  Read the script and synopsis.  Read the reviews.  Watch the video from either past production.  Put 2 and 2 together...and  ask yourself...Who Do you Believe?      This is the post 9/11 production that Broadway and the world has been waiting for...     - Jeff Stewart Dixon

Magic Music Myth In a Post 9/11 World :

In our current politically and religiously troubled world, Magic Music Myth is pertinent now more than ever.   Is religion to be blamed? What is religion ? What is evil?  What is good?  Who is evil? Who is good?  Is there a clear perspective?  Magic Music Myth explores all of these questions and more.  Religions and philosophies highlighted in Magic Music Myth include Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Metaphysics, and Mysticism and, of course Evil, highlighted through "Phlegm Beelzebub Jones."  Magic Music Myth presents all of these topics in a fashion designed to educate, empower, and entertain.

"Everything about this debut project of
auteur Jeff Stewart Dixon is potentially epic."

"A few years ago, Jeff Stewart Dixon began thinking about what to do with a small
catalog of original songs he had written in the vein of Pink Floyd and U2, his childhood
favorite bands. We're about to find out what he came up with.
True to the form of these two legendary bands, there was an ambitious, high-concept,
operatic scope to his work. And so what began as possible CD release from his own nascent
studio and label, Alchemy Sounds, morphed into an all-consuming effort to fully stage the
songs in a high production-value, multimedia rock opera... Dixon used his college
days to train himself in all manner of art, literature and media disciplines,
including production of the same. In addition to the producing and authorship
duties he has assumed over the last two years, he's also the band leader of Alchemy, the
five-person rock ensemble that will perform the score for Magic Music Myth....
By saying anything further, I would take the tiny but very deadly
risk of being the next critic from 1977 who said Star Wars was crap. No deal."
